The Number is 3

Today we got our final embryo update from the embryologist. Today we are happy to sav that we have 3 beautiful little embryos waiting for us on ice. Our freezer babies as I lovingly refer to them. It’s crazy how much you can love and feel attached to something that you haven’t even seen! Below is a chart of our embryo progress.

Day 0 – 17 eggs retrieved, 8 mature, 8 injected using ICSI. 4 vials of sperm frozen. Day 1 – 7 eggs fertilized Day 2 – 6 of the 7 divided and were 2-4 cell embryos Day 3 – 3 divided again and were 6-8 cells, 4 were behind and were 2-5 cell embryos Day 4 – 4 divided again, 2 were Morula stage and 2 were behind, the other 3 were discarded Day 5 – 1 Blastocyst was frozen, 3 others were still being watched, 2 were in Morula stage Day 6 – 2 more Blastocysts were frozen, the 4th embryo was discarded due to degeneration

My recovery has been nonexistent, I honestly feel right back to normal, no pain, no bloating, just back to my normal self. Eric is still a bit sore but he is back to work and driving but still taking it easy. No gym or lifting for him for a little while. His doctor told him no lifting anything over 10 pounds for at least 3 weeks, he has been pretty good, however he has made an exception for our cat, she is around 11 pounds and constantly demands dad’s attention haha.

We feel so fortunate and happy to be at this stage. To know that your potential children might be just waiting for you is an amazing feeling. Right now we are thinking of doing a second egg retrieval and round of injections in November to try to freeze more embryos. This is all dependent on insurance approval. We also plan to take some time to just relax and focus on ourselves. We have lots of house projects to get done and some traveling planned for December. We had a very long year and a half and now that we have answers and can see the light at the end of the tunnel it is time to take a break and find ourselves again outside of azoospermia and infertility!

For now it might be a little while until I update again since things will be a little quiet for us while we decide what to do next. I will of course update again when and if we decide to do round two! Until then happy thoughts and well wishes!
