Today was our appointment with the first male infertility urologist. We have been waiting nearly 2 months for this appointment.while I wish I could say we found the cause, got all of our answers and came up with a solution this isn’t the case. We did however leave feeling a bit more hopeful and with some of our questions answered. After talking with the doctor and reviewing Eric’s records there are three possibilities. 1. He has non obstructive azoospermia causes by his u descended testicles as a child, which he had surgery on at age 11. All FSH, LH and testosterone levels are within the normal ranges however and point against there actually being a production issue which leads us to number 2. He has something called maturation arrest which is where your testicle size is normal, your FSH levels are normal and your body is producing sperm parts however is not fully developing sperm. This isn’t ideal of course but there is potential of still finding a few hidden sperm or cells developed just enough to be used for IVF with ICSI. So with that said we are hopeful for option number 3. He has obstructive azoospermia caused by a blockage somewhere within the reproductive track which is not allowing sperm to get out. The normal semen volume, FSH, LH and testosterone levels point at this being the case. Of course this is not 100% set in stone and is purely speculation at this point but if it is true this is VERY good news. The only way for us to find out for sure is to move forward with the testicular biopsy surgery. They will take samples from each testicle, study them under a microscope and look for signs of sperm. If they find lots of sperm then it means there is a blockage that can hopefully be corrected and we can go on to hopefully have children naturally. If they find few or no sperm then it means we will have to move forward with a second extraction (micro tese) surgery and then IVF with ICSI. Of course with my diagnosis of diminished ovarian reserve we now know that this could pose some risks and difficulties for us as well. So just like with Eric I turned to the internet and ordered as many vitamins and supplements as possible to hopefully boost my egg health. Maybe I will even step foot in the gym too. We are moving forward full steam ahead with our heads held high and our hearts full of hope and a lot of prayers being said. One way or another we will get through this and it will be together. So even though I never in my wildest dreams thought I would say this...come on blockage!
